AMY'S BIOGRAPHY

Amy Meyers is a recognized singer/songwriter in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.  She has been playing in the Bay Area since 1991 and in that time released 6 CD’s of original music and 1 Children’s CD.  Her 2008 release LUCKY charted at #14 on Folk Radio with the song "Summer Town" hitting #4.  She is currently working with Kari Estrin Managment & Consulting (Nashville).

Recognition and features include; KFOG featured artist, KTVU Mornings On 2, KPFA Local Artist Feature, West Coast Live, KGO’s “Best Music You’ve Never Heard,” Lillith Fair Competition Finalist, and West Coast Songwriters Association Best Song.  Her songs have been played nationally on Folk, College and AAA radio.  Most recently Austin’s popular folk/pop star Sara Hickman licensed the rights to Amy’s song “Good” (from Amy’s Strange & Beautiful album) and reproduced it on her June 2006 release, Motherlode.

Amy released her 6th CD, TRAINS AND HENS in December 2006.  TRAINS AND HENS is a Children’s CD featuring 19 traditionals arranged in Amy’s pop/rock/folk style that are fun for the both the parents and the kids. TRAINS AND HENS  was recently picked up by Indigo Books & Music for distribution throughout Canada  Having taught the last 5 years in the Bay Area for the highly acclaimed Mary Ann Hall’s Music For Children, parents agree that this CD is long overdue.

Witnessing the amount of positive joy and influence the music and fun spirit of TRAINS AND HENS  has had on its listeners, Amy began thinking of other ways to reach children through entertainment.  She is now working on bringing that same fun spirit and education to the TV screen with a new Children’s Television Show.  The Pilot episode of “Hello There” is currently airing on the Chabot Community College Cable Station (Hayward, San Leandro, Castro Valley, Fremont) and will later be added to Community College Cable Stations throughout California.

As a graduate from the theatre department at Northwestern University, it is no surprise that in addition to the club scene, Amy has appeared in several stage productions singing, acting, and usually playing an instrument or two.  She was featured in San Jose Stage’s production of Return To The Forbidden Planet singing and playing keyboards and has performed in 4 productions of the highly acclaimed Off-Broadway musical, Cowgirls as the cello and guitar playing Lee.

As with any artist in this business, though, the road is a long one and Amy reminds herself everyday that it is a process.  "This is just one door," she says.  "There are many more to open."  She began her journey in her home town of Dallas, Texas where music was a big part of the Meyers family.  Her mother, Libby, was an excellent pianist and gained recognition when she was asked to "fill in" at the last minute as an accompanist for TONY BENNET.  As such, both Amy and her sister began piano lessons at an early age.  Piano lessons led to voice lessons and writing and performing original songs as well as enjoying many leading roles in local musical theatre.  College years were spent majoring in theatre at Northwestern University and adding guitar to her abilities.  After deciding that New York (Broadway) was not for her, Amy headed West to California to pursue a career in music.  Now 15 years later, after 5 CD releases, hundreds of shows, awards, local and national radio airplay, and continued perseverance, it seems to all be coming together for her.

OCTOBER 2004

VILLICANA WINERY CONCERT

Amy played an outdoor concert at the Villicana Winery in Paso Robles on Saturday,  October 16th during the annual Harvest Festival.  Alex and Monica created a beautiful outdoor setting.  The weather held out for dinner, but 5 minutes before showtime, down came the rain.  The barrel room was quickly cleared and the music was moved inside for what ended up being a fantastic intimate evening of music!

JULY / AUGUST 2004

CONCERT SERIES IN THE HILL

Amy opened for Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers at the Concert Series In The Hills at the CSU campus in Concord on Saturday, July 24th.  She was joined by Pam Delgado on percussion and vocals, Jeri Jones on electric guitar and vocals, and Paul Olguin on bass.

At the Concert Series In The Hills Concert, Amy learned a valuable lesson.  If you borrow one of Jeri Jones' killer black and white checkered pics and "forget" to return it, payback is a #&*!$.  Pictured to the left, Amy holds up what is left of the pic after it broke in half in the middle of a song.  Fortunately, it was the last song of the set because she didn't have any backup pics.

Amy holds up the broken pic in disbelieif!

Amy played the Oakland Metro on August 14th. She was joined by True Margrit on keys and vocals, Pam Delgado on percussion and vocals, Jeri Jones on electric guitar and vocals, and Kevin White on bass.  She shared the bill with the very talented and unique, True Margrit

MAY / JUNE 2004
Amy appeared as the cello/guitar playing Lee in Cowgirls May 13th - June 12th at the Dean Lesher Center in Walnut Creek.  This was her 4th time playing the role, having previosuly appeared in the production in 1999 at Marin Theatre Company, in 1999 at Fullerton Civic Light Opera, and in 2001 at Music Theatre of Southern California.  She shared the stage with some of the original members of the New York Off-Broadway cast. They played 25 shows to nearly SOLD OUT audiences every performance.

"Center Rep has found an amazing group of actresses -- several, including Murfitt, Coullet and Jordan, are from the original off-Broadway cast -- capable of filling these roles. Each is a fine singer, each is musically adept and each is a delightfully agile comedian."        - Contra Costa Times

"...the trio's harmonies are actually quite good. Amy Meyers delivers the most solid performance as Lee, the optimistic New Age lesbian cellist, and manages to sell the folk-flavored "Don't Look Down."  - East Bay Express

.  "Cowgirls" opened Saturday at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in a production filled with seasoned pros."     - Oakland Tribune
